  • The European Economic and Social Committee is holding the fourth edition of its conference on energy poverty on 26 June in Brussels.

  • European social protection systems exhibit imbalances, especially for workers in non-standard and new forms of employment. This leaves many without adequate social protection coverage, especially women who often receive lower pensions due to employment gaps. Despite EU initiatives rolled out from the European Pillar of Social Rights, gaps persist, calling for legal and policy improvements. This hearing will invite relevant stakeholders to discuss these imbalances and recommend ways to achieve fairer social protection systems and bridge pension gaps across all types of employment.

  • The EESC is organising a hybrid public hearing on 28 May 2024 from 9:30 am to 1 pm.

    Its objective is to hear from policy makers, civil society organisations and social partners, about the importance of affordable community -based services and of a human rights approach to mental health care

    The outcomes of the hearing will feed into the EESC's opinion "Mental Health Community Services"

  • The Western Balkans Civil Society High-Level Conference will bring together EESC members, organised civil society representatives from the Western Balkan countries, and members of organised civil society and officials from Slovenia. It will mark 20 years of the biggest EU enlargement thus far, and 20 years since Slovenia joined the Union. The conference will be organised in close cooperation with and support from our partners and will complement the EESC’s work, such as the Western Balkans Civil Society Forum, which the EESC has organised every two years since 2006. The event will provide an opportunity for participants to exchange views on the needed reforms in the Western Balkans and in the EU to maintain enlargement policy as one of the most important EU success stories. It will also be an opportunity to discuss the current situation of civil society in the region and the need for its better inclusion in the accession process. The participants will adopt conclusions addressed to national authorities and European institutions.

  • Recognizing sustainable finance as a critical element in the pursuit of sustainability, this event aims to explore the intersectionality between biodiversity conservation and climate finance, shedding light on their interdependencies, challenges, and opportunities and providing input to the EESC own-initiative opinions (A comprehensive strategy for biodiversity at COP16 and Climate finance).
     

  • Public debate The involvement of youth in the work of the ECO section - Recent experience and way forward, organised during the ECO section meeting.

  • Innovation is indeed a key component of Belgium’s economy and its productivity, and has been encouraged and supported by several instruments and policy measures, be it at the federal or at the regional level. By showcasing best practices in fostering synergies between the private sector, businesses and the R&D community, the conference aims to present the Belgian example and discuss the situation in different EU Member States.

  • The workshop will delve into Europe's AI landscape, explore Europe's position in the global talent race for AI expertise and identify EU´s comparative edge and its most promising sectors when it comes to AI in R&D. Join us for the timely debate in view of the preparation of the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
